Two family-owned supply chain trackers and labelling experts combine as Peacock buys insignia

Domino continuous inkjet printing is one of many services offered by Brisbane-based insignia.

Two Australian family-owned supply chain trackers specialising in labelling solutions are joining forces after Peacock Group signed an agreement to acquire insignia, a Brisbane-based company servicing 3,500 customers nationwide for an undisclosed sum.

The Melbourne-based buyer is best known for its brand Peacock Bros, founded in 1888 and now one of the largest providers of printing and data capture solutions across the supply chains of Australia and New Zealand.

Today's announcement follows a trend of consolidation for the Peacock Group, having acquired other brands in recent years including LabelHQ on the Mornington Peninsula in 2017 and Tullamarine-based printed carton packaging group AMR Hewitts in 2022.

Like AMR Hewitts, insignia has been a family-owned company for decades with a 55-year history and business model offering solutions such as barcoding, automated labelling, cloud and device management, custom labelling, scanning and verification.

With 115 staff servicing a wide range of industries, insignia works with world-leading thermal printing, data capture, and marking and coding solutions brands such as Domino, Zebra, Honeywell, GS1 and more, and is also a leading national label manufacturer, producing custom prime product labels, overprint labels, and blank labels and tags from its production facilities in Brisbane and Melbourne.

The acquisition will take the Peacock Group's staff count to more than 300 and lift its customer base to more than 15,000 in the region.

insignia managing director Jack Winson says the proud family-run business has extensive experience solving complex operational challenges for leading brands in Australia.

"We are pleased to join the Peacock Group, another long-established family-owned business, who share common values and are respected for the quality of their work," says Winson.

"Our staff and customers can be reassured that the long history of our company and brand will continue well into the future with the support and backing of the Peacock Group."

Peacock Group managing director Ryan McGrath welcomes insignia to the group, describing it as a "respected competitor" within the industry.

"Their professional team and expertise, combined with state-of-the-art print manufacturing facilities, allows us to significantly expand our product and service offerings within the region, whilst also providing exciting opportunities for our staff, customers, and partners," McGrath says.

"The ability to identify and track goods from manufacturing through the supply chain and into retail settings is essential today. insignia leads the way in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of critical business operations for Australian companies, improving supply chains with advanced technologies.

"Peacock Group looks forward to supporting insignia’s highly regarded team and growing its business into the future."

The deal is due for completion by the end of this month.
