Gadens Brisbane splits off retail banking arm into independent law firm Green Mortgage Lawyers

Craig Green, former senior banking partner at Gadens Brisbane, will lead the new independent law firm.

A merger between different partnership of national law firm Gadens has led to a demerger of the retail and commercial banking arm into a new independent law firm known as Green Mortgage Lawyers, owned and led by Craig Green and bringing across 150 staff from Gadens Brisbane.

Craig Green was responsible for bringing banking, commercial, litigation, and property legal practices to Gadens Brisbane after a merger with MacGillivrays Solicitors, where he had served as managing partner for 18 years, merged with Gadens in 2013.

Fast forward a decade and the Sydney and Melbourne offices sought to merge with Brisbane and Adelaide under one common partnership, but the areas of Green's expertise were largely limited to just the Brisbane partnership.

It was therefore decided that retail banking clients would be best served through a demerger of the speciality into a separate business - a process that has taken more than a year to put into practice.

"This is a strategic initiative by both Gadens and Green Mortgage Lawyers, allowing each entity to expand significantly within their specialist fields," says Green.

The expanded and more diverse national Gadens brand has already strengthened its team of legal professionals in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Green Mortgage Lawyers will commence operations on 1 July with a team of 50 lawyers, paralegals, and operational staff based in Brisbane, and an additional 100 staff members supporting from a robust offshoring business in Manila, Philippines.

"I am excited to launch this new firm with its rich heritage. Green Mortgage Lawyers will specialise in legal mortgage lending and will dedicate all its resources, people and investment entirely to delivering exceptional service and customer centric solutions in legal mortgage lending," says Green.

"I have had staff working with me in my banking and finance legal practice for 27 years and clients for more than 30 years. This isn't new - it's business as usual with an exciting new brand and a focus on commercial and retail mortgage lending solutions.

"This is an extraordinary opportunity, 40 years in the making, to strengthen bonds and honour my staff and client partnerships by offering a more specialised approach to mortgage lending. We will focus on greater innovation, technology, and a more personalised service."

He says all decisions at Green Mortgage Lawyers will have a 100 per cent banking focus and "our clients' interests at the heart of everything we do".

Investing more funds into security, innovation, and technology is also set to become a focus.

"Being specialised is key for us—it means we can embrace the latest technologies and tailor our services precisely to what our clients need. Without the red tape of bigger firms, we're nimble and quick, always staying ahead of the game. This agility means we handle matters faster, closing loans more efficiently," Green explains.

"We're hands-on, diving deep into the issues, solving problems, fostering business growth, and adapting to change. It's second nature to us."
